About This is Hunan
A local, honest, practical guide built from real experience.
Hi, I'm a Hunan Local
I grew up in Changsha, spent countless weekends hiking in Zhangjiajie, and have eaten my way through every street food alley in the province. I built this site because most English travel guides about Hunan felt either too generic or written by people who'd spent 48 hours here.
This site is my attempt to share the Hunan I know: the mist-covered peaks at dawn, the noodle shops where locals start their day, the ancient towns that still feel lived-in, and the practical details that make the difference between a stressful trip and a great one.
Why I Built This
Most guides don't tell you what actually matters
They tell you Zhangjiajie is beautiful, but not that you need to wake up at 6 AM to beat the tour groups. They mention Changsha has good food, but not how to order at a local noodle shop when you don't speak Chinese. I wanted to fill in those gaps.
Travelers deserve practical, honest advice
Every recommendation on this site is something I've personally done or would recommend to a friend. If a place is overrated, I'll tell you. If a route is exhausting, I'll warn you. You won't find paid promotions or exaggerated claims here.
Hunan deserves better than a two-paragraph wiki entry
This province has Avatar-like mountains, thousand-year-old academies, the spiciest food in China, and a culture that's completely distinct. It deserves a travel guide as deep and interesting as the place itself.
